Enter the distance and consumption
How far you are going, and how much fuel your car uses.
Enter the distance, your car's consumption and the fuel price. You get the fuel used, the cost of the trip, the cost per kilometre or mile and each person's share.

How far you are going, and how much fuel your car uses.
Per litre, or per gallon in US units.
Total, fuel used, cost per distance and each person's share.
Before a road trip, a commute change or a car-sharing arrangement, the question is always how much the fuel will cost. The answer needs three numbers: the distance, how much fuel the car uses and the price of fuel. Multiplying them by hand is easy to get wrong, especially when consumption is given in different units in different places. This calculator does it in a moment and also shows the cost per distance and per person.
The fuel used is the distance multiplied by the consumption, and the cost is the fuel used multiplied by the price. With a consumption of 6.5 litres per 100 km, a 450 km trip uses 29.25 litres. At 1.65 per litre that costs about 48.26. A round trip doubles both the distance and the cost, and the tool can do that for you with one tick.
In most of the world consumption is given in litres per 100 kilometres, where a lower number is better. In some countries it is kilometres per litre, where a higher number is better. In the United States and the United Kingdom it is miles per gallon, and the gallons are different sizes. The calculator accepts litres per 100 km and kilometres per litre in metric mode and US miles per gallon in US mode, so you can use whichever figure your car's manual, trip computer or fuel log gives you.
Add the number of people travelling and the tool shows what each one pays for the fuel, which is a fair starting point for splitting a trip between friends or colleagues. Fuel is only one of the costs of running a car. Tolls, parking, wear and insurance are not included, so the figure is a lower bound on the true cost of the journey.
Real consumption depends on speed, load, traffic, terrain and driving style, and it can be quite different from the manufacturer's figure. For an accurate result, use the average consumption from your own trip computer or from filling the tank and dividing the litres by the kilometres. To convert between consumption units, use the unit converter.
