Type or paste text, or drop a file, and get its SHA-512 hash (128 hexadecimal characters) instantly, next to the other common hashes. Everything is computed in your browser.
100% private — text and files are hashed in your browser and never uploaded.

The hash updates as you type. Choose lowercase or uppercase hexadecimal, or Base64.
Copy the hash with one click, or paste a known hash in the compare box to check that they match.
To generate a SHA-512 hash, type or paste your text in the box above, or drop a file on it. The 128-character SHA-512 checksum appears at once, together with the other common hashes, and you can copy any of them. Everything is computed in your browser, so the text and files you hash are never uploaded. For example, the SHA-512 of the word hello is 9b71d224bd62f3785d96d46ad3ea3d73319bfbc2890caadae2dff72519673ca72323c3d99ba5c11d7c7acc6e14b8c5da0c4663475c2e5c3adef46f73bcdec043.
SHA-512 belongs to the SHA-2 family, published by NIST in 2001, and produces a 512-bit fingerprint written as 128 hexadecimal characters. It works on 64-bit words, so on modern 64-bit processors it is often as fast as SHA-256 or faster for large inputs, while giving a much longer digest.

A longer hash is not automatically a better password hash. Plain SHA-512 is still very fast, so it should not be used on its own to store passwords; use Argon2id, bcrypt or scrypt instead. For everyday integrity checks, SHA-256 is enough, shorter to copy and more widely published by software vendors.
The hash is computed by your own browser with the Web Crypto API (and a built-in routine for MD5, which Web Crypto does not offer). Nothing you type and no file you drop is sent to a server, so it is safe to hash private text and internal files.
