Remove image borders

Drop a photo that has a plain, roughly solid-colored margin around it — the black strip a scanner sometimes adds, or a white border — and this tool finds where the real content starts and crops the rest away.

Higher finds more, but risks trimming real content near the edge.

100% private — every photo is trimmed on your device and never uploaded to any server.

Works best with a plain, roughly solid-colored border, like a scanner's black or white margin. A busy or gradient background may not be detected.

How it works

Drop your photos

One or many, each with a plain border to remove.

Adjust sensitivity if needed

Higher catches more but risks cutting real content near the edge.

Download the trimmed result

Individually, or all together as a ZIP.

Finding where a solid border ends

Scanning a page often leaves a black or white strip around the actual content, from the scanner bed showing through or the page sitting slightly crooked. This tool looks at each edge of the photo, row by row and column by column, checking how close each one is to the color found in the corners, and crops away everything that matches closely enough — stopping the moment it hits something that doesn't.

Sensitivity

The sensitivity slider controls how strict that match has to be. Set it low for a genuinely flat, solid border, and raise it if the margin has some noise or slight color variation, like a scan with a bit of texture in the background. Push it too high, though, and it risks eating into real content near the edge that happens to be a similar shade.

What this works well on

This is built for a plain, roughly uniform border: a scanner's black frame, a white margin, a solid-colored mat around a photo. It is not a general-purpose "remove the background" tool — a busy, textured or gradient background usually won't be recognized as a border and nothing will be trimmed, rather than risk cutting into your photo incorrectly.

Batch scanning

Drop several scans or photos at once and each one is scanned and cropped independently, so a folder of pages from the same scanning session can be cleaned up in one pass instead of opening each file separately.

Privacy

Every photo is scanned and cropped locally on your device. Nothing is ever uploaded.

Frequently asked questions

What kind of border does this remove?
A plain, roughly solid-colored margin around the actual content, like a scanner's black or white edge. It's not built to remove complex or textured backgrounds.
What does the sensitivity slider do?
It controls how close a pixel needs to be to the corner color to count as border. Raise it for a noisier margin, but too high risks trimming real content near the edge.
What if no border is found?
The tool tells you and leaves that photo alone rather than guessing and cutting into your image incorrectly.
Can I process several photos at once?
Yes, drop as many as you like; each one is scanned and trimmed independently, with individual downloads or one ZIP for the batch.
Will this crop into my actual photo?
It stops trimming the instant it finds a row or column that doesn't match the border color closely enough, so real content should be left intact.
Are my photos uploaded anywhere?
No. Everything happens entirely in your browser.
