How it works

Drop your files

Select them from a folder, or drag them in.

Choose the format

Name only, or with size and type added.

Copy or download the list

As plain text, ready to paste anywhere.

A file listing without opening a terminal

Listing the contents of a folder as plain text is normally a job for a command line, typing ls or dir, which is a detour for anyone who does not use one regularly. This tool does the same job through drag and drop: select or drop the files and get their names back as a list you can paste into a document, a checklist, an inventory or an email.

What you can include

  • Name only, one file per line, the simplest list.
  • Name and size, separated by a tab, which pastes into spreadsheet columns cleanly.
  • Name, size and type, a readable one-line summary of each file.
  • CSV, a proper comma-separated file with a header row, ready to import into a spreadsheet or database as structured data rather than a casual list.

Where this helps

Building an inventory of files to hand off to someone else, documenting what is included in a delivery, keeping a record of what was in a folder before archiving or deleting it, or simply getting a quick file count and list without digging through a folder manually.

What it does not do

The list reflects the files you drop or select, not a live folder; if you add more files to the folder afterward, you need to drop them again to update the list. It also does not read into subfolders on its own; select files from inside a subfolder separately if you need them included. Nothing is uploaded: only file names and sizes are read, entirely in your browser.

Frequently asked questions

How do I get a list of file names as text?
Drop the files here. Their names appear as a plain text list you can copy or download immediately.
Can I include the file size in the list?
Yes. Choose one of the formats that adds size, either tab-separated or as a readable summary.
Can I export it as CSV?
Yes, choose the CSV format for a proper comma-separated file with a header row, ready to open in a spreadsheet.
Does it include files in subfolders?
Only if your file manager lets you select or drop a whole folder including its contents; otherwise, only the files you directly select are listed.
Is this the same as running dir or ls?
It produces a similar plain list, but through drag and drop instead of a command line.
Are my files uploaded?
No. Only their names and sizes are read, entirely in your browser.
