The classic meme format, without a bulky editor

The top-text-bottom-text meme format has stayed the same for over a decade for a reason: it's instantly readable and instantly recognisable. This tool reproduces exactly that — bold white capital letters with a black outline, one line up top and one along the bottom — without opening an image editor or signing up for an app.

How the text is sized

Type your lines and the text is capitalised, wrapped across multiple lines if it's long, and shrunk automatically so it always fits the width of the photo. There's nothing to drag or resize by hand — it's tuned to look right on the first try, the way most classic memes are laid out.

What this doesn't do (yet)

This covers the classic top/bottom layout. It doesn't support placing text anywhere on the image, multiple text boxes, stickers or filters. If you need to hide or cover part of a photo instead of adding a caption, Redact an image does that.

Getting a readable result

Short lines work best — a word or two per side reads instantly, while a long sentence gets shrunk down and wrapped across several lines to fit, which can crowd a busy photo. A photo with a plain area near the top and bottom, rather than a lot of detail edge to edge, also leaves the outlined text easier to read at a glance.

The photo and the text are combined entirely in your browser. Nothing is uploaded anywhere.
