How it works

Drop your PDF

Any PDF with real, selectable text.

Wait for the text to be read

Every page is read in your browser.

Download the .docx

One paragraph per line, a page break between the original pages.

An honest PDF to Word conversion

Turning a PDF back into an editable document is a genuinely hard problem: a PDF describes where letters sit on a page, not paragraphs, columns or tables, so any converter has to guess at structure it was never given. Rather than pretend to rebuild a pixel-perfect layout and quietly get it wrong, this tool does one thing honestly: it pulls out the PDF's real text, keeps the line breaks and page breaks, and hands it to you as a plain, editable .docx.

What comes across

Every line of selectable text from every page, in reading order, becomes a paragraph in the Word file, with a page break where each original PDF page ended. That's enough to grab the wording of a document and keep working on it as text.

What doesn't come across

Fonts, columns, tables, images and exact layout are not rebuilt — this is a text-only conversion, not a visual clone of the PDF. If you need the original look preserved exactly, keep the PDF; if you need to edit the words, this gets you there without retyping anything.

Scanned PDFs

If a PDF is a scanned image with no real text layer, there's nothing here to extract — you'll be pointed to the PDF OCR tool, which reads text out of a scan first.

Why not just keep everything as one block of text

Splitting the extracted text into a separate paragraph per line, instead of dumping it all into one giant block, keeps the result usable: it's much easier to select, quote or clean up a specific sentence or heading when it already sits on its own paragraph, rather than untangling it from a wall of text first.

Privacy

Your PDF is read and converted entirely in your browser. Nothing is uploaded at any point.

Frequently asked questions

Does this keep the original PDF layout?
No, this is a text-only conversion: it keeps the words, line breaks and page breaks, but not columns, tables, images or exact fonts.
Can I edit the downloaded file in Word?
Yes, it's a standard .docx file that opens in Word, Google Docs and LibreOffice, fully editable.
Why does it say no text was found?
That PDF likely has no real selectable text, usually because it's a scanned image. Try the PDF OCR tool to read text out of a scan first.
Are page breaks kept?
Yes, a page break is inserted in the Word file everywhere the original PDF started a new page.
Is my PDF uploaded anywhere?
No. Everything happens entirely in your browser.
Does it work with very long PDFs?
Yes, though very large documents take longer since every page is read individually before building the file.
