How to calculate GST

To calculate GST, multiply the price by the GST rate as a decimal and add it to the price. At 10%, a price of 100 has 10 of GST and a total of 110. In the calculator above, enter the amount and the rate and the GST and total appear at once. To take GST out of a total that includes it, choose remove GST and the tool divides the total by 1 plus the rate.

Tips

  • In Australia, a price that includes GST has one eleventh of it as GST, because 10/110 is 1/11.
  • Businesses registered for GST charge it on sales and can claim credits for the GST on their purchases.
  • Rates and exemptions change; confirm them with your tax authority before filing.

How do I add GST to a price?
Multiply the price by 1 plus the rate. At 10%, multiply by 1.1: 100 becomes 110.
How do I remove GST from a price?
Divide the price by 1 plus the rate. At 10%, 110 ÷ 1.1 = 100, so the GST was 10.
