A printed report with loose pages, a long contract referenced by page number in an email, an appendix that should count from where the main document left off: page numbers make a document easier to navigate and refer to, and a PDF that was exported without them is a common, quick fix.
The rest of each page is untouched: the number is added on top, in a plain, unobtrusive style that stays out of the way of the existing content.
This adds a simple number stamp; it does not support per-section restart points within the same file or a different style for odd and even pages. For adding a text or logo watermark instead of numbers, use watermark PDF. Your document is processed entirely in your browser and is never uploaded.
Opening a full desktop editor just to stamp a number in the corner is more than the task needs. This keeps to that one job, so the rest of your layout, fonts and images stay exactly as they were.
