100% private — your images are compressed on your device and are never uploaded to any server.

Works with images up to about 60 MB each. GIFs are converted using their first frame. On an older phone, very large images may be slow.

How to compress a PNG

To compress a PNG, drop it on the box above. PNG is a lossless format, so quality cannot simply be lowered as with JPG: the biggest savings come from choosing a maximum width, which reduces the number of pixels, or from switching the output to WebP, which supports transparency and is usually much smaller. Compare the sizes shown and download the version that suits you. Nothing is uploaded.

Why PNG files are big

PNG stores every pixel exactly, which keeps text, logos and screenshots perfectly sharp and preserves transparency, but it makes photos very heavy. A photo saved as PNG can be five to ten times bigger than the same photo as JPG.

Choosing the right output

  • Logos, icons and screenshots: keep PNG, or use WebP if the destination accepts it.
  • Photos with a transparent background: WebP.
  • Photos without transparency: JPG, for the smallest files.
  • Print or editing: keep the original PNG and compress only copies for the web.

An honest note

Some online tools shrink PNGs by reducing the number of colours. This tool does not do that in the browser; it offers resizing and format conversion, which give reliable results without hurting sharpness. If you need palette reduction for an icon, check the result carefully.

Private by design

Everything is calculated in your browser as you type; nothing is sent to a server.

Frequently asked questions

Can PNG be compressed without losing quality?
PNG is lossless, so re-saving it loses nothing, but the savings are small. Bigger reductions come from resizing or converting to WebP.
Does WebP keep transparency?
Yes. WebP supports transparent backgrounds and is supported by all modern browsers.
Are my images uploaded?
No. Everything runs in your browser.
Is this converter free?
Yes. There is no sign-up and no limit, and it runs in your browser, so nothing you type is sent to a server.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. It works in any modern mobile browser, and the result updates as you type.
