Download the PNG or SVG, then scan it with a phone before you print it.

How to make a location QR code

To make a location QR code, enter the latitude and the longitude of the place in the form above, in decimal degrees. The QR code appears at once. Download it as PNG or SVG. Scanning it opens the location in the maps app on the phone. To get the coordinates, open a map, press and hold on the spot and copy the two numbers shown. Everything runs in your browser.

What is inside the code

The QR code holds a geo link with the two coordinates. For this page it is geo:40.4168,-3.7038, a point in the centre of Madrid. Latitude comes first and runs from -90 to 90, then longitude from -180 to 180. Negative numbers mean south or west.

Getting the coordinates

  • Open a map service, press and hold on the exact place and copy the numbers that appear.
  • Use decimal degrees, as in 40.4168, not degrees, minutes and seconds.
  • Four decimals give about 10 metres of accuracy and five give about one metre.

Good uses

  • Event invitations and wedding stationery pointing at the venue.
  • Meeting points in a large park, a fair or a festival.
  • Shops and stands that are hard to find.
  • Trail signs and tours with stops along a route.

Compatibility and alternatives

Android phones open geo links directly in the maps app. iPhones may not treat a geo link the same way, so if most of your audience uses iPhone, create a normal URL QR code with a link to a maps page for the place, which opens everywhere.

Private by design

The code is drawn by your browser on your own device. What you type, including passwords and contact details, is never sent to a server, and the finished image is yours with no watermark and no expiry.

Frequently asked questions

How do I find the latitude and longitude of a place?
Press and hold on the spot in a maps app and copy the numbers that appear, or search for the place and read the coordinates in the details.
Does a location QR code work on iPhone?
Support for geo links varies. For reliable results on iPhone, use a URL QR code that links to a map page.
How precise is the location?
As precise as the numbers you type: four decimals are about 10 m and five decimals about 1 m.
Is there a limit to how many QR codes I can make?
No. There is no limit, no sign-up and no watermark; the codes are created in your browser.
Is this converter free?
Yes. There is no sign-up and no limit, and it runs in your browser, so nothing you type is sent to a server.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. It works in any modern mobile browser, and the result updates as you type.
