How it works

Fill in the details

Enter the information for this type of QR code; the code appears as you type.

Adjust the look

Choose the size, colours and error correction. Keep strong contrast between dark and light.

Download and test

Download the PNG or SVG, then scan it with a phone before you print it.

How to make a vCard QR code

To make a vCard QR code, fill in your name, company, phone, email and website in the form above. The QR code appears at once and contains the whole contact card. Download it as PNG or SVG and add it to a business card, an email signature or a slide. When someone scans it, their phone offers to save you as a new contact, with all the fields filled in.

What is inside the code

The QR code holds a vCard, the standard electronic business card format. This page uses version 3.0, which every phone reads. It looks like this:

Example vCard

BEGIN:VCARD
VERSION:3.0
N:Sample;Alex;;;
FN:Alex Sample
ORG:Sample Studio
TEL;TYPE=CELL:+15551234567
EMAIL:alex@example.com
END:VCARD

Keep it short so it scans easily

Every extra field makes the QR code denser, with smaller squares that are harder to scan when printed small. A business card has room for about 3 cm of code, so include only what people need: name, company, one phone number and one email address. Add a website and a job title only if there is room, and test the printed card with two or three phones.

Where to use it

  • Business cards, so nobody has to type your number.
  • Email signatures and slides at events and talks.
  • Name badges and stands at fairs and conferences.
  • Shop windows and vehicles, to make contacting you a single scan.

Updating your details

A vCard QR code is static: it stores the details inside the picture, so it works forever without any service, but if your phone number changes you need a new code. Print small batches, or link to a web page instead when your details change often.

Private by design

The code is drawn by your browser on your own device. What you type, including passwords and contact details, is never sent to a server, and the finished image is yours with no watermark and no expiry.

Frequently asked questions

What is a vCard?
A vCard is a standard file format, with the extension .vcf, for electronic business cards. Phones and email programs import it as a contact.
Will it work on iPhone and Android?
Yes. Both scan it with the camera and offer to create a contact with the fields already filled in.
Are my contact details stored on your server?
No. The code is generated in your browser, and nothing is uploaded or kept.
Is there a limit to how many QR codes I can make?
No. There is no limit, no sign-up and no watermark; the codes are created in your browser.
Is this converter free?
Yes. There is no sign-up and no limit, and it runs in your browser, so nothing you type is sent to a server.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. It works in any modern mobile browser, and the result updates as you type.
