Enter the information for this type of QR code; the code appears as you type.

Download and test

Download the PNG or SVG, then scan it with a phone before you print it.

How to make a WhatsApp QR code

To make a WhatsApp QR code, use the chat link format https://wa.me/ followed by your number in international format with digits only, for example https://wa.me/15551234567. Add ?text= and a message to prefill the first message. This page already has an example in the URL box: change the number, and the QR code updates. Download it as PNG or SVG. Scanning it opens a chat with you.

Why a WhatsApp QR code works well

  • Customers already use WhatsApp, so starting a conversation takes one scan.
  • No number to type, which removes the most common mistake.
  • Prefilled text tells you where the enquiry came from, for example Table 12 or Poster in the station.
  • It works with WhatsApp Business numbers as well as personal ones.

Tips

  • Use a business number if the code will be public: anyone can scan it.
  • Test the code on iPhone and Android, with and without WhatsApp installed; without the app the link opens a web page that suggests installing it.
  • Keep the prefilled message short and put the campaign name in it.

Encoding the message

The message must be percent-encoded: a space is %20, a line break is %0A and an ampersand (&) is %26. If you want to encode a longer message safely, use the URL encoder tool first and paste the result after ?text=.

Private by design

The code is drawn by your browser on your own device. What you type, including passwords and contact details, is never sent to a server, and the finished image is yours with no watermark and no expiry.
