How to convert text to Title case

To convert text to Title case, paste it in the box above and the result appears instantly in the output box, ready to copy. The style is already selected on this page. Every line is converted on its own, accents and other alphabets are respected, and nothing is uploaded because it all runs in your browser.

What it does

Title case capitalises the first letter of the important words in a heading and lowers the rest. Style guides such as AP, Chicago and MLA differ in details, but they agree on the core rule: capitalise the first and last word, and keep short articles, conjunctions and prepositions lowercase. The option Keep small words in lowercase, on by default, applies that rule.

Where it is used

  • Blog posts and article headlines, which usually follow title case in English.
  • Book, film and song titles in bibliographies and catalogues.
  • Slide titles and section headings in presentations and reports.
  • Product names and menu items that need a consistent look.

Tips and things to check

  • Turn off the small-words option if you want every word capitalised, sometimes called Capitalize Each Word.
  • Acronyms and brand names with unusual capitals, such as iPhone or NASA, may need a manual fix after converting.
  • Title case is an English convention. Spanish, French and most other languages capitalise only the first word and proper nouns; use sentence case for them.

Private by design

Your text is processed in your browser and never sent to a server, so you can safely convert drafts, contracts, code or anything private.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between title case and capitalize each word?
Title case keeps small words such as of, and and the in lowercase, while capitalising each word raises every one. Untick the small-words option to capitalise all of them.
Which words stay in lowercase?
Short articles, conjunctions and prepositions such as a, an, the, and, but, or, for, of, in, on, at, to and with, unless they are the first or the last word of the title.
Does it work on many lines at once?
Yes. Every line is treated as its own title, so you can paste a whole list of headings.
Is this converter free?
Yes. There is no sign-up and no limit, and it runs in your browser, so nothing you type is sent to a server.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. It works in any modern mobile browser, and the result updates as you type.
