Compare up to four target zones at once.
To convert GMT to EST, subtract 5 hours (normally). For example, when it is 12:00 noon in Greenwich Mean Time / London it is 7:00 AM in Eastern Time (New York) in winter. In the converter above the source and target zones are already selected: enter a date and a time and the result appears at once.
London uses GMT (UTC+0) in winter and British Summer Time (BST, UTC+1) in summer. GMT is therefore the right label only for the winter months; in summer London is one hour ahead of GMT.
Eastern Time covers New York, Washington, Miami, Atlanta, Boston and Toronto. It is Eastern Standard Time (EST, UTC−5) in winter and Eastern Daylight Time (EDT, UTC−4) in summer, so people often write ET for both.
London is on GMT in winter and BST in summer, and New York shifts on different dates, so the gap is normally five hours but drops to four for a few weeks in March and October. Winter offset: 5 hours behind. Summer offset: 5 hours behind.
