The converted time appears with its date and UTC offset.
Compare up to four target zones at once.
To convert UTC to EST, subtract 5 hours in winter and 4 hours in summer. For example, when it is 12:00 noon in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) it is 7:00 AM in Eastern Time (New York) in winter and 8:00 AM in summer. In the converter above the source and target zones are already selected: enter a date and a time and the result appears at once.
UTC is the world's reference time. It never changes for daylight saving, which is why servers, aviation and software logs use it. It is the same as GMT for everyday purposes.
Eastern Time covers New York, Washington, Miami, Atlanta, Boston and Toronto. It is Eastern Standard Time (EST, UTC−5) in winter and Eastern Daylight Time (EDT, UTC−4) in summer, so people often write ET for both.
Subtract five hours in winter and four in summer. If a time is given in UTC, always check whether New York is on standard or daylight time on that date. Winter offset: 5 hours behind. Summer offset: 4 hours behind.
