How it works

Enter the date and time

And the time zone it is in. Your own is chosen by default.

Choose the places

Up to four cities to convert to.

Read the times

Each one with its weekday, UTC offset and a note if it falls on another day.

What time is it there?

Working across time zones is part of everyday life: scheduling a call with a colleague overseas, joining a webinar announced in someone else's time, following a live event or a sports fixture, phoning family abroad or booking a flight whose times are given in the local time of each airport. A wrong conversion means a missed meeting. This tool converts a specific date and time between any of the places on the list.

Why it is harder than adding hours

The difference between two places is not always the same. Many countries move their clocks forward in summer and back in winter, and they do so on different dates, so the gap between New York and London, usually five hours, is four for a couple of weeks in spring and again in autumn. Some zones differ by half hours or by 45 minutes. The tool works from the internationally maintained time zone database used by your browser, so it applies the rules that were in force on the date you choose, and daylight saving is handled automatically.

What each result shows

  • The time in the chosen place, in the format of your language.
  • The weekday and date, which can be different from the place you started in.
  • The offset from UTC at that moment, for example UTC-04:00, which reveals whether daylight saving is in force.
  • A note when the local date is the next or the previous day, a common trap in scheduling.

Using it to schedule

Enter the proposed time in your zone and convert to the zones of the other people. If a proposal is in the middle of the night for someone, try another time. For finding a time that suits several places at once, use the meeting time finder, which shows all the hours side by side.

What it does not do

It lists major cities rather than every time zone in the world, and it relies on your browser's time zone data, so very recent changes to a country's rules might not yet be reflected on an old device. For critical events, such as a flight or a legal deadline, confirm the local time with the organiser.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert a time to another time zone?
Enter the date and time, choose the zone it is in and the zones to convert to. The times appear with their weekday and UTC offset.
Does it handle daylight saving time?
Yes. It uses the time zone rules in force on the date you choose, so the change of clocks is accounted for.
What is UTC?
Coordinated Universal Time, the reference from which time zones are measured. Local times are expressed as UTC plus or minus an offset.
Why does the date change in another city?
When the difference in hours pushes the time past midnight. The tool marks it as the next or previous day.
Can I convert a time that is not in my time zone?
Yes. Change "The time is in" to the zone where the time was given.
Is my data sent anywhere?
No. The conversion is done in your browser.
