How to convert AVIF to JPG

To convert AVIF to JPG, drop your AVIF files on the box above, choose the output quality and download the result. The conversion happens inside your browser, so the files never leave your device, and it is free with no sign-up.

What AVIF and JPG are

AVIF is a very efficient format derived from AV1 video. Files are often 30 to 50 percent smaller than JPG at the same quality, with transparency and HDR support. Recent browsers open it, but a lot of older software and many upload forms do not.

JPG (also written JPEG) is the standard photo format. It compresses with loss: fine detail is discarded to keep files small, which is invisible at moderate settings. It has no transparency and no animation, and every camera, phone, browser, printer service and upload form accepts it.

Why convert AVIF to JPG

AVIF pictures are small and sharp, but many programs cannot open them yet. When you save an AVIF from a website and try to attach it, edit it in an older editor or send it through a form, JPG is the format that works everywhere, so converting AVIF to JPG solves the compatibility problem in seconds.

What changes when you convert AVIF to JPG

  • Compatibility jumps. JPG opens on every device, editor and upload form, which AVIF still cannot guarantee.
  • The file gets bigger. AVIF is one of the most efficient formats, so the same picture as JPG is commonly 30 to 100 percent larger.
  • Transparency and HDR are lost. JPG has no transparency; see-through areas are filled with the background color you pick.

Tips for the best result

  • Use quality 90 to keep the extra compression step invisible.
  • If the AVIF has transparency, convert to PNG to keep it, or set a background color for JPG.
  • This converter needs a browser that can display AVIF; if your browser cannot, use a recent version of Chrome, Firefox or Safari.

Private by design

The conversion runs entirely in your browser using your device's own image engine. Your AVIF files are never uploaded to a server, so personal photos, documents and unpublished designs stay with you, and there is no queue and no size limit imposed by an upload.

Frequently asked questions

Why won't my AVIF file open?
AVIF is a recent format. Older image editors, Office versions, email clients and many upload forms do not support it. Converting it to JPG gives a file that any program can open.
Is JPG worse than AVIF?
For compression efficiency, yes: AVIF gives smaller files at equal quality. JPG's advantage is universal compatibility, which is why it is the format to choose when the picture has to work everywhere.
Is this AVIF to JPG converter free?
Yes, completely. There is no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on the number of files. The tool runs in your browser, so it costs us nothing to let you use it as much as you like.
Are my images uploaded anywhere?
No. The conversion is done on your own device with your browser's image engine. Nothing is sent to a server, which also makes it fast and safe for private pictures.
Can I convert several AVIF files at once?
Yes. Add as many as you like; each one is converted separately and you can download them individually or all together in a ZIP file.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. It runs in any modern mobile browser on iPhone and Android. Very large images can be slow on older phones because your device does the work.
