How to convert WebP to PNG

To convert WebP to PNG, drop your WebP files on the box above, choose the output quality and download the result. The conversion happens inside your browser, so the files never leave your device, and it is free with no sign-up.

What WebP and PNG are

WebP is Google's modern image format. It can be lossy or lossless, supports transparency and animation, and usually makes files roughly a quarter to a third smaller than JPG or PNG at similar quality. Current browsers read it; some older apps, print services and email programs still do not.

PNG is a lossless format: every pixel is stored exactly, so text, logos and screenshots stay razor sharp, and it supports full transparency. The price is size, since a photo saved as PNG is often three to ten times bigger than the same photo as JPG.

Why convert WebP to PNG

Converting WebP to PNG keeps the one thing JPG cannot: transparency. It is the right choice when a WebP logo, sticker, icon or cut-out product photo has to go into a program, presentation or document that does not read WebP, and the see-through background has to survive.

What changes when you convert WebP to PNG

  • Transparency is preserved. Areas that are see-through in the WebP stay see-through in the PNG.
  • The file grows. WebP compresses better than PNG, so the PNG is often noticeably heavier, especially for photos.
  • Animation is not kept. An animated WebP becomes a still PNG made from its first frame.

Tips for the best result

  • Use PNG when the image has transparency or sharp text; for ordinary photos, JPG will be far lighter.
  • If the original WebP was lossy, the PNG will not look better: it captures the picture exactly as the WebP shows it.
  • Check the result on a colored background to confirm the transparent edges look clean.

Private by design

The conversion runs entirely in your browser using your device's own image engine. Your WebP files are never uploaded to a server, so personal photos, documents and unpublished designs stay with you, and there is no queue and no size limit imposed by an upload.

Frequently asked questions

Does WebP to PNG keep the transparent background?
Yes. PNG supports full transparency, so the see-through areas of your WebP stay transparent. That is the main reason to choose PNG over JPG for this conversion.
Why is my PNG bigger than the WebP?
WebP uses more advanced compression, so an equal-looking PNG usually weighs more. PNG stores every pixel with no loss, which is what makes it reliable for graphics but heavy for photographs.
Is this WebP to PNG converter free?
Yes, completely. There is no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on the number of files. The tool runs in your browser, so it costs us nothing to let you use it as much as you like.
Are my images uploaded anywhere?
No. The conversion is done on your own device with your browser's image engine. Nothing is sent to a server, which also makes it fast and safe for private pictures.
Can I convert several WebP files at once?
Yes. Add as many as you like; each one is converted separately and you can download them individually or all together in a ZIP file.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. It runs in any modern mobile browser on iPhone and Android. Very large images can be slow on older phones because your device does the work.
