How to convert WebP to JPG

To convert WebP to JPG, drop your WebP files on the box above, choose the output quality and download the result. The conversion happens inside your browser, so the files never leave your device, and it is free with no sign-up.

What WebP and JPG are

WebP is Google's modern image format. It can be lossy or lossless, supports transparency and animation, and usually makes files roughly a quarter to a third smaller than JPG or PNG at similar quality. Current browsers read it; some older apps, print services and email programs still do not.

JPG (also written JPEG) is the standard photo format. It compresses with loss: fine detail is discarded to keep files small, which is invisible at moderate settings. It has no transparency and no animation, and every camera, phone, browser, printer service and upload form accepts it.

Why convert WebP to JPG

WebP images are everywhere on the web now, but the moment you download one and try to use it elsewhere the trouble starts: an older version of Office, an email program, a print shop, a marketplace or a social network may refuse it or show a blank square. JPG is the format that opens everywhere, so converting WebP to JPG is the quick way to make the picture usable.

What changes when you convert WebP to JPG

  • Compatibility jumps. JPG opens in every program, phone and upload form, which WebP still cannot promise.
  • The file usually gets a little bigger. WebP is more efficient, so the same picture as JPG at similar quality typically weighs 20 to 40 percent more.
  • Transparency and animation are lost. Transparent areas are filled with the background color you choose, and an animated WebP keeps only its first frame.

Tips for the best result

  • Use quality 90 for photos to avoid visible loss from the extra compression step.
  • For a WebP with transparency, pick the background color first, especially if it will sit on a colored page.
  • If the destination accepts PNG and the image has transparency, convert to PNG instead to keep it.

Private by design

The conversion runs entirely in your browser using your device's own image engine. Your WebP files are never uploaded to a server, so personal photos, documents and unpublished designs stay with you, and there is no queue and no size limit imposed by an upload.

Frequently asked questions

Why can't I open a WebP file in my program?
WebP is newer than JPG and PNG, so older versions of image editors, Office suites, email clients and some print or marketplace uploads do not support it. Converting it to JPG gives you a file every program can read.
Do I lose quality converting WebP to JPG?
A little. Both formats are lossy, so a second compression step is applied. At quality 90 the difference is normally invisible; avoid converting the same picture back and forth.
Is this WebP to JPG converter free?
Yes, completely. There is no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on the number of files. The tool runs in your browser, so it costs us nothing to let you use it as much as you like.
Are my images uploaded anywhere?
No. The conversion is done on your own device with your browser's image engine. Nothing is sent to a server, which also makes it fast and safe for private pictures.
Can I convert several WebP files at once?
Yes. Add as many as you like; each one is converted separately and you can download them individually or all together in a ZIP file.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. It runs in any modern mobile browser on iPhone and Android. Very large images can be slow on older phones because your device does the work.
